First Reserve is structured as a limited partnership that operates as a private equity fund manager and portfolio manager for pooled investment vehicles. The firm is SEC-registered (since 2012) and reports ownership that includes both foreign-entity and individual stakeholders. Its client base is institutional, and it serves in sponsor/GP and managing-member roles for pooled vehicles rather than acting as a capital allocator. Fee arrangements include a percentage-of-AUM component, performance-based fees and other fee lines.
